Reed FE are working with a College in Birmingham and are seeking a Payroll Officer to join the Payroll and Benefits team on a fulltime, temporary ongoing basis. This role involves managing the day-to-day payroll operations for approximately 1000 employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all processes. The successful candidate will provide specialist advice on College Pension Schemes, Benefits, and Pay queries, working collaboratively with the internal People Services team to ensure accurate pay runs.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Accurate Data Processing: Ensure precise processing of both fixed and variable payroll data, actioning all changes promptly to guarantee correct and timely employee payments.
- Payroll Deductions & Compliance: Process payroll deductions accurately, including taxes, and ensure timely payments to third parties like HMRC and pension providers. Escalate issues as necessary.
- Pension Scheme Administration: Handle pension-related transactions, ensuring compliance with Auto Enrolment legislation and accurate reporting.
- Year-End Reporting: Manage year-end processes such as P11Ds and P60s calculation and reporting, maintaining accuracy and compliance.
- Query Resolution: Efficiently respond to payroll queries from various stakeholders, providing clear and accurate information.
- Mentorship and Team Contribution: Support and mentor the Payroll Apprentice, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Audit & Compliance: Conduct regular audits of payroll documentation and assist with internal and external audits to maintain high governance and data accuracy standards.
- Process Improvement: Evaluate and improve payroll processes and document control procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Confidentiality & Data Protection: Maintain strict confidentiality in all payroll and benefits matters, ensuring compliance with Data Protection policies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in payroll management, preferably in an educational or similar setting.
- Strong knowledge of payroll and pension regulations, including HMRC requirements and Auto Enrolment.
- Experience with payroll software and systems, with a strong ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, capable of handling queries and providing advice on complex payroll and pension matters.
