Payroll Administrator

Unite Students has a fantastic opportunity for a Payroll Assistant to join our high performing Finance team in our Bristol office. Reporting to Payroll Supervisor, the Payroll Assistant will assist the Payroll team with the smooth running of the monthly staff payroll. The Payroll Team act as the first point of contact for our internal customers, helping to resolve queries and manage all salary and expenses related payments and deductions and the associated administrative activities within strict deadlines. We will consider part-time working (preferably 4 days a week -30 hours) and are hybrid working, with the expectation of being in the office 3 days a week, with 2 days working from home.

What you`ll be doing

  • Assist the team to ensure accurate payroll payments are processed on a monthly basis within set deadlines
  • Develop monthly payroll reports and reconciliations in order to ensure that our third party benefit suppliers are paid accurately and on time, liaising with external agencies when required
  • Track taxable benefits made to employees and update P11Ds and PAYE settlement agreement to ensure that the correct amount of tax and national insurance is paid in accordance with HMRC regulations and review transactions to ensure accurate and timely reporting to HMRC
  • Assist with pension input and administration
  • Keep process documentation updated
  • Input tax code changes
  • Assist with the processing of expenses when required
  • Assist with the monitoring and chasing of salary overpayments where required
  • Help to monitor the variable overtime payments into the Core Manager Self- Service and assist managers with overtime queries
  • Achieve targets as agreed with line manager
  • Take a positive approach to change within the business, generating and implementing ideas for continuous improvement
  • Support with query resolution within the defined SLA

What we`re looking for in you

  • Experience of working in a Finance environment
  • A passion for delivering excellent customer service
  • Payroll experience highly desirable
  • Microsoft Office skills including Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to organise workload to meet strict agreed deadlines
  • Ability to work at a fast pace with a high level of accuracy
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-motivated and possessing the ability to work on own initiative as well as within a team.
