Job Description :

Manchester city centre based law firm has an opportunity within their Clinical Negligence team for a Paralegal. The role will be to support fee earners with their caseloads and will be a great opportunity for an ambitious law graduate to develop their legal career alongside our specialist lawyers.

The team includes members of the Law Society's specialist panel of clinical negligence solicitors and the Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) solicitors panel.

Person requirements:

  • The ability to demonstrate a basic knowledge of legal principles in relation to clinical negligence work, whether through previous relevant paralegal experience or through legal studies.
  • A strong academic background.
  • The ability to undertake the appropriate research and to "work up" potential clinical negligence cases and to help to assess their viability.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to sort and paginate medical records and to prepare chronologies and reviews to help identify the issues in relation to clinical negligence cases in terms of breach of duty, causation and quantum.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Carry out administrative tasks as necessary such as maintenance of databases, and recording time accurately.
  • Assist in case-based tasks including obtaining informal expert opinions to assess the viability of cases.
  • Obtain disclosure of medical records and other case related documentation.
  • Prepare instructions to medical experts and counsel.
  • Prepare witness statements.
  • Assist solicitors in their conduct of clinical negligence cases.
