Painter and Decorator
  • Location: Kirklees Council
  • Job Type: Full-time temp contract for the next 6 months

We are looking for ten skilled Painters and Decorators to join our Building Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of Council-owned properties, including public buildings and schools. This role requires a professional with in-depth knowledge and experience in painting and decorating, who can ensure client satisfaction through high-quality work and conduct.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Carry out internal and external decoration of Council properties, public buildings, and schools.
  • Maintain a favourable business image and ensure client or tenant satisfaction with the quality of work and prompt services.
  • Complete all relevant records accurately, such as timesheets, as per existing procedures.
  • Stay updated with technological developments within the trade.
  • Uphold the Council’s Health and Safety policies and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Comply with the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy and promote inclusive practices.
  • Participate in training and development as per the Performance Management framework.
  • Perform duties in compliance with the Council’s Environment Policy and aim for continuous environmental performance improvement.
  • Carrying out damp and mould treatment across all properties in the Kirklees area.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in painting and decorating.
  • Apprentice trained with City & Guilds/NVQ III in the appropriate trade or equivalent.
  • Experience with hanging wide fabric and paper lining, and application of sprayed finishes.
  • Experience working in a maintenance environment in domestic properties and schools, as well as public buildings.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle
  • Prepared to work overtime as required.
  • Awareness of Customer Care and Equality Issues.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • An understanding of Health and Safety issues related to the building trade.
  • Full Time 37 hours a week, Monday to Thursday 8.00am - 16.00pm and Friday 8.00am - 15.30pm
