Job Overview:

The Chace People team is seeking an experienced Gallery Head of Operations to oversee the operations of a new, not-for-profit art gallery in London. The gallery is set to host a program of exhibitions throughout the year and various events, and will grow and evolve. This role involves implementing and managing the gallery's infrastructure, budgets, as well as overseeing all aspects of building, exhibition and residency programmes, along with the pastoral care of the team. The Head of Operations is also responsible for the maintenance and facilities of both the gallery as well as the adjoining administrative offices. This role works with the Founding Director's wider team, to ensure compatibility and consistency across associated ventures. An essential partner to Head of Programmes, this role directs a team of vendors, suppliers and art partners to facilitate a smooth-running operation of the space, and implementation of organisational procedures. This position reports to the Director (Founder).

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of successful senior-level art gallery/project management
  • Experience in art galleries or cultural institutions
  • Experience in charity work and having worked for a foundation would be a bonus
  • Experience working with artists, shippers, art installers, architects, accountants and lawyers
  • Proven operational management skills
  • Strong understanding of legal and HR aspects in a gallery setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and team management skills
  • Ability to handle building management and renovation projects
  • Knowledge of exhibition planning and event management
  • Familiarity with not-for-profit sector operations
  • Excellent knowledge of Art Logic and Microsoft Office essential; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Zero also useful

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee infrastructure setup during the renovation project
  • Manage the building and ensure it meets operational needs
  • Oversee legal and HR matters related to the gallery
  • Develop and implement policies for the gallery
  • Manage on-site personnel and ensure effective teamwork
  • Oversee budgets for - and the implementation of - installations, maintenance, and de-installation of exhibitions annually, as well as occasional site-specific projects
  • In collaboration with the Exhibition team, develop and manage budgets for all exhibitions
  • Managing input of third-party vendors

This role is full-time, Monday-Friday, and may require some work to be undertaken outside of scheduled office hours, namely evenings, weekends, and occasionally international travel. The salary and package on offer will be commensurate with experience.
