About Us:

At the Glasgow School of Art (GSA), creativity is at our core. We are one of Europe’s most exciting centres for studying, teaching, and researching fine art, design, and architecture. Situated in the vibrant heart of Glasgow, our studio-based, globally connected community thrives on pushing boundaries, evolving ideas, and nurturing the creative spirit.

Through world-class teaching and pioneering research, we make a real difference — inspiring innovation, critical thinking, and helping to shape the creative industries of tomorrow.

As an independent and forward-thinking institution, we extend our reach through strong local, national, and international partnerships that multiply our impact.

Master of Fine Art Programme Leader - The Role:

The MFA is one of the School’s capstone postgraduate programme – a two-year course attracting a diverse cohort of artists from Scotland, the UK, and internationally. Known for its dynamic, interdisciplinary environment, it is respected worldwide for critical and experimental approaches to contemporary art.

Rooted in Glasgow’s cultural and curatorial ecosystems while operating within a global context, the programme fosters vital local and international connections. As Programme Leader, you will shape these relationships. This is a rare opportunity to direct a programme with an international reputation, embedded in a vibrant local context, and central to the future of Fine Art education.

Master of Fine Art Programme Leader – Responsibilities:

As Programme Leader, you will oversee the academic direction, delivery, and development of the MFA, leading a team of lecturers and working closely with the Head of School, other postgraduate Programme Leaders, undergraduate Heads of Department, and senior colleagues.

You will demonstrate a commitment to decentralised and inclusive approaches to Fine Art education. You will support students in engaging with diverse audiences, histories, and practices, challenging dominant Western paradigms. Your educational and (potentially) research activities will reflect these values, and you will provide evidence of innovative, student-centred teaching.

You will also have a strong record of high-quality research and a willingness to play an active role in one of the School of Fine Art’s research networks, contributing positively to the research culture of the School and the wider GSA.

Master of Fine Art Programme Leader – You:

- Educated to postgraduate level or equivalent

- An excellent understanding of current debates, trends, and issues in Fine Art

- Demonstrable experience of practice and research in Fine Art

- Experience of working with postgraduate students

- Experience of curriculum design, development, and quality enhancement/assurance

- Experience of managing initiatives to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion, and to enhance accessibility in learning and teaching

Master of Fine Art Programme Leader – Benefits:

- A generous local government pension scheme with 23% employer contribution

- 35 days annual leave plus 11 public holidays (pro-rata for part-time staff)

- Financial assistance available for qualifying roles to make your transition smoother

- Cycle to Work scheme

- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements to support work-life balance

- Comprehensive employee assistance programmes for mental, physical, and financial wellbeing

- Excellent opportunities for professional growth and development

We welcome applications from all backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Sponsorship for Skilled Worker Visas is available subject to UKVI eligibility.
