THIS IS AN OFFICE-BASED ROLE, WITH HYBRID OPTIONS AFTER 3-6 MONTHS

Our client is a market leader, in the Tax Services sector. They are looking to recruit a Manager for their Tax Services Team, based in Farnham, Surrey.

This is a hands-on, sales-focused role, where you’ll be expected to lead from the front — especially during peak periods. Although you are managing a team of Tax Assistants, you must be used to working with sales strategies, and in particular, client retention. The Tax & Outsourcing team delivers exceptional support to self-employed clients, ensuring tax returns are completed accurately and submitted to HMRC on time.

You will have a background in Tax Accountancy and experience leading a high-performing team. This is very much a a strategic leadership role, so you will need to thrive in a fast-paced, target-driven environment where commercial thinking meets operational excellence.

As Manager, you’ll use your deep knowledge of tax, accounts, and HMRC legislation to lead a high-performing team, improve processes, drive commercial results, and champion a client-first approach.

KEY DUTIES

  • Own departmental KPIs including sales targets, revenue per client, upsell rates, and retention.
  • Create and embed a sales-focused culture within the service team.
  • Collaborate with Sales, VAT, and Underwriting teams to drive service-led growth and ensure seamless handovers.
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives such as pricing strategy, retention projects, and commercial reporting.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the business to align on shared client outcomes.
  • Ensure smooth and timely onboarding of new clients from Sales with defined handover SLAs.
  • Improve efficiency and throughput, reducing resolution times and increasing conversion to higher-value services.
  • Support the Operations Director by identifying and eliminating operational blockers.
  • Provide data, reporting, and presentations to support strategic decision-making at board level.
  • Stay on top of HMRC rules and ensure team-wide compliance.
  • Set clear KPIs and performance goals aligned with team and business revenue targets.
  • Foster a high-performance culture with coaching, recognition, and accountability.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and support underperforming team members through proactive coaching.
  • Develop commercial awareness within the team — connecting service delivery with business outcomes.
  • Champion a collaborative, competitive, and “win together” mindset across the department.
  • Complete Self-Assessment return compliance audits

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an accounting environment, managing a team in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
  • Experience working in a commercial or sales-led business.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and motivate teams to deliver against targets.
  • Strong knowledge of UK tax legislation and regulations
  • Solutions-focused with a strong problem-solving mindset and a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Focus on KPIs, conversion metrics, and upsell opportunities.
  • Highly organised with strong time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Prior experience using a Practice Management Software

DESIRABLE SKILLS

A background in Tax Accountancy or experience working with self-employed clients. Experience managing cross-functional projects or formal qualifications in project management.

Minimum accounting or Tax qualification (AAT, CTA, ATT).

Hours of work are Monday to Thursday 8.30am–5.30pm, and Friday 8.30am–5.00pm.
