Job Title: Management AccountantLocation: Leeds (Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 days remote)Salary: £50,000-£55,000Reports To: Finance Manager
Purpose of the Role
To ensure the accurate, timely, and insightful accounting and reporting of operating expenditure. This role plays a key part in supporting the Finance Manager in controlling costs and delivering high-quality financial information to support business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Opex Accounting Ownership:Take responsibility for the accounting of specific P&L lines and assist with others to ensure completeness and accuracy of reported operating expenditure.
- Intercompany Transactions:Accurately record and reconcile intercompany transactions, leveraging an understanding of the company's operational structure.
- Cost Analysis & Reporting:Review operating costs against budgets and KPIs, providing clear and timely variance analysis and identifying trends or areas requiring attention.
- Issue Resolution:Investigate and resolve discrepancies or queries related to expenditure in collaboration with the wider finance team.
- System Use & Data Integrity:Use financial systems (e.g., SAGE, Workday) to ensure accuracy and consistency of data across reporting outputs.
- Balance Sheet Management:Ensure accruals and prepayments are correctly accounted for and reflected accurately on the balance sheet.
- Stakeholder Engagement:Work closely with operational teams to promote a "right-first-time" approach in the use of purchase orders and invoice processing.
- Monthly Reporting:Prepare and present monthly operating expenditure results to the Finance Manager and Financial Controller, including key insights and analysis.
- Budgeting & Audit Support:Assist in the preparation of the annual operating expenditure budget and support the external audit process.
- ERP Implementation Support:Contribute to the successful implementation and embedding of a new ERP system within the finance function.
Skills and Experience
- Qualifications:Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
- Technical Proficiency:Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial systems such as SAGE and/or Workday
- Core Competencies:

- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders
- Organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Industry Experience:Previous experience in an industry or commercial finance environment is preferred.
