Job Description :

Reed Talent Solutions are working with United-Utilities on the search for a Logistics Operator.

This will be a hands-on, site-based, administrative role supporting the daily operations of wastewater treatment facilities. Working from a cabin-style office at the site, the coordinator will manage incoming waste tankers from United Utilities and other companies, record load details, and direct drivers to appropriate offloading points. The role involves regular interaction with site teams, visitors, and external clients, and requires a strong focus on health and safety.

The successful candidate must hold a valid UK driving licence and be able to drive a manual vehicle. They will need access to their own car for commuting between the two wastewater treatment sites, located approximately 20 minutes apart. While a United Utilities van may be provided for use during working hours, it cannot be used for travel to and from home. The role is based in a non-office, industrial environment and requires a flexible, proactive approach to planned daily tasks.

Key areas of the job

  • Provide tanker reception services for scheduled incoming Bioprocessing tankers and carry out designated waste acceptance tests and administration of accompanying paperwork.
  • Operation & Maintenance (first call) of the Bioprocessing assets at Davyhulme WwTW and Stockport WwTW.
  • Implementation of Bioprocessing Treatment Plans – for each individual waste stream, ensuring that each consignment of offloaded at the correct location and discharged in accordance with Bioprocessing’s Regulatory requirements down the correct process route.
  • Supervision and control of Bioprocessing tanker movement on site, including day to day Health & Safety issues around all Bioprocessing assets
  • Collection of waste monitoring samples from all incoming consignments and Bioprocessing’s process assets(as appropriate)
  • Day to day administration and record keeping, including keeping of detailed logs and collation of raw data for producing formal reports and returns to the regulator.
  • Ensure professionally high standard of functionality of all bioprocessing assets at Davyhulme through good housekeeping, maintenance and diligence.

What you'll need to be successful in the role?

  • Must hold a valid UK driving licence and be able to drive a manual vehicle.
  • Mainly based at Blackburn WwTW (BB6 7UG. Must be able to commute between two sites: WwTW (PR5 0UY – Preston area) and Blackburn WwTW (BB6 7UG)
  • No formal minimum qualifications have been set (eg WAMITAB) but knowledge of UK Waste Management Regulations and Wastewater Treatment processes is a distinct advantage
  • An awareness and understanding of waste water treatment processes is an advantage
  • A qualification (academic or vocational) in a science, waste or wastewater background would be an advantage
  • Precise inputting of data onto the Wastebase Computers system is required so a level of IT competency is required.
  • Adaptability and flexible in attitude
  • Ability to work unsupervised at times to an agreed and established standard procedure
  • Health and Safety awareness and understanding.
  • To be observant and have the ability to grasp and follow the requirements laid out by the environmental permits and associated waste regulations.
  • The post holder will be expected to deal effectively and politely with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, including tanker drivers, regulators and customer representatives.

Role details:

  • Job title: Logistics Operator
  • Location: Split between WwTW (PR5 0UY – Preston area) and Blackburn WwTW (BB6 7UG), based near Samlesbury.
  • Contract: 6 months ongoing
  • Hourly pay rate: £13.23 PAYE
  • Working hours: Monday- Friday 7am-4pm
  • Training: Initial training will take place at Davyhulme WwTW (Greater Manchester) for the first couple of weeks.
  • Start date: ASAP
