Job Opportunity: Licensing Enforcement Officer (Temporary – Sheffield)

Location: Sheffield 

Duration: 2–3 months 

Working Arrangement: Hybrid (office and remote) 

Pay Rate: £20.16 per hour (PAYE) 

Hours: 37 hours per week, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays as per rota

A dynamic and experienced Licensing Enforcement & Technical Officer is required to join a busy licensing team in Sheffield for a short-term assignment. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in regulatory enforcement and a keen eye for detail.

Role Overview:

You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with licensing regulations across a wide range of areas including:

  • Alcohol and entertainment licensing
  • Taxi and private hire licensing
  • Gambling, street trading, animal licensing, and events

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections, compliance checks, and targeted enforcement operations
  • Investigate complaints and take enforcement action against unlicensed or non-compliant operators
  • Prepare reports, prosecution case files, and conduct interviews under caution
  • Attend hearings and court proceedings as required
  • Provide technical advice and support to internal teams, licence holders, and external stakeholders
  • Represent the service at public meetings and deliver presentations

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in licensing or a similar regulatory function
  • Strong understanding of licensing law and enforcement procedures
  • Experience conducting inspections and preparing reports
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage emotionally demanding situations
  • Willingness and availability to work nights, weekends, and bank holidays

  • Must not hold or be related to holders of certain local authority licences (e.g., taxi, alcohol)
  • The role involves physical site visits and use of IT systems
