Legal Director - Privacy - Robert Walters : Job Details

Our client, a leading software business, is looking for a Privacy Director to lead their data protection and privacy function who now sit as part of the wider in-house legal team. This role is based in Central London and requires 2-3 days per week in the office. This role offers the chance to shape a growing function at an exciting time for the business. The Privacy Director will be leading a team of three staff and be required to provide practical & commercially-focused advice as the business looks to meet its data protection obligations. You will be collaborating with key stakeholders across the business to mitigate risk and raise awareness of the importance of compliance with privacy legislation. You will also be acting a key advisor when it comes to the company's AI strategy and associated risks.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading a high-performing team, setting policies, driving their implementation and acting as a primary contact point for all matters related to data privacy.
• Oversee and monitor the group's privacy and data protection compliance frameworks.
• Providing high-quality and timely advice to help navigate legal and compliance requirements.
• Design and deliver a privacy and data protection training and awareness program.
• Horizon scan to understand legislative developments relating to privacy and data protection.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

• UK qualified lawyer, at least 8+ PQE with a specialism in data privacy (however all candidates will be considered on merit).
• Previous experience in a software or technology business will be favourable.
• Strong knowledge of privacy and data protection law within other jurisdictions.
• Previous people leadership experience, ideally in an international business.
• A calm and confident manner to operate in a business where priorities are rapidly evolving.
• The ability to break down complex legal concepts into easy-to-understand advice for non-lawyers.
