The Role: Learning Mentor (SEMH Focus)

As a Learning Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Working both inside and outside of the classroom, you will help students develop strategies to manage their emotions, regulate behaviour, and engage in their learning journey.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting students with emotional regulation and mental health needs
  • Helping students build coping strategies and personalised 'toolboxes' for managing stress or anxiety
  • Encouraging positive relationships, social skills, and emotional resilience
  • Collaborating with teachers and staff to support learning and well-being
  • Monitoring student progress and behaviour
  • Ensuring all safeguarding concerns are reported and acted upon appropriately

Person Specification

Essential:

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Interest in supporting young people with SEMH needs
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and professional boundaries
  • Willingness to learn and undertake relevant training

Desirable:

  • Experience in education, care, or youth support
  • Aspirations to progress into SENCO, social work, or mental health roles
  • Knowledge of de-escalation and behaviour support strategies
