Job Title: Lead Teacher for Complex Cases for Speech, Language, Communication and Autism

Team: SEND Specialist Advice and Support Service

Salary: Centrally Employed Teachers Leadership Pay Range £56,122 progressing to £61,787

Hours: Full time (32.5 hours term time only)

Location: Base Stevenage or Apsley Hybrid working (remote and office based)

Contract Type: Permanent

We are looking to recruit a Lead Teacher for Complex Cases, working countywide, whose primary responsibilities will include:

• Line management of the Complex Cases team of Specialist Advisory Teachers (currently a team of four), including the allocation of casework across the county and training/induction of new staff when required
• Carrying a small caseload of complex cases, providing written advice and recommendations, liaising with parents/carers, and attending/chairing Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings to support the planning of educational provision for children and young people on caseload
• Management of the Complex Cases referrals as they are received and lead on identifying the most appropriate approaches/support for each case
• Leading on projects to support the development of the service offer for SLCN, and communication and autism
• Development and delivery of bespoke training to support school/setting understanding of a range of SEND

The key function of the SEND Specialist Advice and Support Service (SENDSAS) is to ensure that the educational and developmental progress of children and young people (0-25), with a range of SEND, is met in line with the Hertfordshire Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy and Children’s Services strategic objectives.

The Speech, Language Communication and Autism team provide specialist support for schools/settings in ensuring that appropriate provision is in place to meet the needs of children and young people with autism and/or SLCN (with or without diagnosis).

The Complex Cases team forms part of the SLCA team and works closely with schools and professionals across a broad range of services, including children’s mental health support services, to ensure high quality support/advice is available to meet the needs of children and young people with complex social communication difficulties, social, emotional, and mental health needs and autism across the county.

They contribute to the writing and delivery of schools’ training to support children and young people on their caseload, and provide specialised advisory reports which contribute to the planning of educational opportunities for Children Looked After, children known to Social Care, children with mental health needs, refugees, children in care homes, travellers and children awaiting specialist placement with complex needs or in complex situations.

Essential:

• Minimum five years relevant and successful teaching and leadership experience
• You will have recent classroom experience, practice knowledge for the specialism area or be centrally employed within an advisory service
• Able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of relevant high-quality teaching and learning strategies
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of best practice in relation to meeting the needs of children and young people (0-25) with SEND relating to social communication, autism and SLCN
• Educated to degree level and hold Qualified Teacher Status
• Ability to model excellent practice and lead by example
• Be able to evaluate practice and evidence the impact of interventions
• Ability to use data and performance measures to evaluate practice, evidence outcomes and identify areas for development
• Able to travel independently - current driving licence and access to a car for work purposes

Desirable:

• Hold a relevant additional qualification in a specialist area e.g. SEND, Autism, SLCN, National SENCO Award etc.
• Experience of specialist advisory casework

This role is ideal for those who have previous experience in specialist schools, who have experience as a senior team leader in a SEND educational setting or who have extensive SEND experience. You will be comfortable acting in an advisory capacity and liaising with internal and external parties, families and undertaking school and home visits.
