About the Role:

Step out of the traditional classroom and onto the water! We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Lead SEN Teacher to manage and deliver a unique educational experience aboard our Floating Classroom canal boats in Burnley, Lancashire. This is a pioneering role focused on providing an engaging, therapeutic, and enriching environment for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

We are not requiring Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SEN professional, youth worker, or dedicated teaching assistant with a proven track record of working with young people with complex needs. Your ability to create a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment is more important than a formal qualification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the Floating Classroom, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

  • Develop and deliver a practical, hands-on curriculum tailored to the specific needs of students with SEN.

  • Utilise the unique canal-side environment to teach life skills, teamwork, and independence.

  • Collaborate with support staff and parents to create personalised learning plans.

  • Act as a positive role model and mentor, fostering a sense of belonging and achievement.

  • Manage resources and maintain a calm, organised, and effective learning space on the boat.

What We're Looking For:

  • Significant experience working with young people with Special Educational Needs.

  • An understanding of various learning disabilities and behavioural challenges.

  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.

  • Problem-solving ability and a resourceful mindset.

  • A passion for the outdoors and a willingness to work in a unique, non-traditional setting.

  • First Aid and safeguarding training (or a willingness to undertake this).
