Claremont is looking for a highly organised and proactive lead science technician with a specialism in chemistry to join our science department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of outstanding science education in a well-resourced and forward-thinking school.

About the Role:

As the lead science technician, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the technician team and ensuring the smooth running of practical science lessons across all key stages, including A level. You will also act as the dedicated chemistry technician, managing the preparation and safe handling of chemicals and equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the preparation and delivery of practical resources and demonstrations

  • Managing chemical inventories, ordering, and safe storage in line with COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines

  • Conducting and overseeing risk assessments and promoting safe working practices

  • Monitoring departmental expenditure and liaising with heads of science

  • Supporting staff and students with equipment use and practical set-ups

  • Leading the technician team, with line management responsibilities depending on experience

We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable individual with:

  • A relevant NVQ Level 2 in Laboratory Technical Skills or a science degree

  • A strong background in chemistry and experience in a school or laboratory setting

  • Excellent organisational, communication and IT skills

  • A calm, efficient and flexible approach, especially under pressure

The hours for this role are Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm (including a 30 minute unpaid lunch break). The role is term time only (35 weeks per year to cover term time and INSET days)
