About the role

In this role you will act as a '’team manager’’ leading a team of Regional Business Development Specialists to identify, engage with, triage and onboard SMEs to the Innovate UK Business Growth Service. You and your team will encourage the key decision-maker(s) within growing leading-edge, innovative, high growth SMEs to engage with and access innovation support to accelerate their growth and achieve scale.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supporting your team, covering all aspects of people management, including recruitment, mentoring, learning and development, absence and performance management.
  • Identifying, setting and reporting on key objectives and targets that contribute to the organisation’s KPI’s.
  • Managing the allocation of incoming referrals from a variety of sources to fully optimise team capacity, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring compliance with agreed systems, processes, data recording and reporting requirements.
  • Using holistic analysis tools to review and diagnose client needs, identifying tailored support to address those needs and managing a pipeline of potential prospective clients
  • Keeping up to date on sources of business support and ensuring information is shared with colleagues

About you

To be considered for this role you will have previous experience of managing a team, together with experience of B2B consultative sales and account management to owners/ boards / C-suite SME clients. We are looking for someone with experience of working within a business support organisation who is highly motivated to support and encourage their team, to engage with potential new clients and encourage them to take up Innovate UK EDGE support and services.

You will have;

  • Knowledge and practical experience of utilising HR processes to manage people and teams
  • The ability to carry out general business needs assessments and present results to SME owners and Innovate UK EDGE colleagues;
  • Experience of working within a business support organisation, together with an awareness of the business support landscape.

In addition, you will need to be able to:

  • Diplomatically, competently and effectively engage and communicate with people at all levels (internally and externally);
  • Motivate, encourage, support and manage team members to deliver their best and meet individual and organisational targets and objectives
  • Work independently and use your own initiative/self-motivation as well as working as part of a team;
  • Effectively prioritise multiple demands, work at pace, make good decisions and action promptly;
  • Use your influencing skills and personal drive to achieve the best outcome for clients
  • Be IT literate and experience of MS Office and the use of databases and CRM systems

What we offer

We endeavour to make roles flexible. While this role is advertised as full time, we will consider requests to undertake the work on a flexible part-time basis, so please feel free to talk about what flexibility means to you at your initial phone interview.

You need to live within commutable distance of the East of England and West Midlands and have a driving licence and access to a car as the role requires regular travel to those regions.

Our FTE pay range is wide with mid-point for this role of £47,000
