In this role you will be conducting detailed reverse engineering of mechanical products to improve design and functionality

This role focuses on the disassembly, analysis, and documentation of industrial products to understand their design, functionality, and manufacturing processes.  

Ideally you will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, CAD modelling, and materials analysis, with a passion for innovation and problem-solving.

Experience using 3d scanning tools such as FARO arm 3d scanner would be beneficial for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct detailed reverse engineering of mechanical industrial products.

Utilize 3D scanning, CAD tools, and metrology equipment to recreate accurate digital models of components and assemblies.

Analyse materials, manufacturing methods, and design principles used in existing products.

Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including BOMs, schematics, and engineering drawings.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product design, and manufacturing to support product improvement or replication efforts.

Identify opportunities for cost reduction, performance enhancement, or design optimization based on reverse engineering insights.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering subject (Mechanical Engineering or similar)
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SAP, Windchill, Geomagic) and 3D scanning tools.
  • Component scanning using CMM equipment like the FARO arm 3D scanner
  • Experience of turning scan cloud data into manufacturing CAD data
  • Familiarity with materials analysis, manufacturing processes, and industrial design principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Experience with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and technical standards (e.g., ISO, ASME)
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) would be bene
  • Design review, document approval and technical report writing.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing technology and processes
