A leading scientific facility is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to support the operation and continuous improvement in their Chemistry and Microbiology laboratories. This role involves hands-on testing, equipment and consumables management, and collaboration with quality and safety teams.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Testing
- Perform routine and ad hoc testing across all laboratories.
- Follow established methods and adapt or develop new ones as needed.
Laboratory Equipment Maintenance
- Coordinate calibration, servicing, repairs, and procurement of lab equipment.
- Ensure all equipment is functional and maintained on schedule.
Consumables Management
- Purchase and manage laboratory consumables efficiently.
Test Method Management
- Collaborate with Laboratory Coordinators to review and verify testing methods.
- Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice and relevant standards.
Lab Safety
- Work with the Site Manager and Coordinators to maintain risk assessments.
- Ensure safe disposal of laboratory waste and report safety hazards.
External Analysis Coordination
- Arrange and track external testing in line with schedules and requirements.
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications
- Degree in a scientific discipline, preferably Microbiology, Chemistry, or Biology.
- Knowledge of Laboratory Management Systems and lab safety practices.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of laboratory experience (academic or professional).
- Experience in biochemical and microbiological testing.
- Familiarity with laboratory management systems.
Key Competencies
- Strong analytical and scientific reporting skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (site-based role).
