We are working with a chemical company which is a developer and manufacturer of a range of fine chemical products. These include a range of products that are formulated on behalf of clients. These are liquid products and aerosols.

They are seeking a Laboratory Technician to work on the chemical activities that leads to this outcome, from early-stage development though to supporting production.

They work with clients on formulation and testing, and meet challenges with chemistry, working with national organisations, delivering cost savings via innovation and reformulation.

What you’ll do:

You will be working on the formulation, development and testing of products on client’s behalf. Many of these you will be familiar with and see on shop shelves. Examples would be cleaning products, lubricants, disinfectants, silicones, air fresheners, and paints.

• Analysis of incoming raw materials, intermediate checks and final products
• Quality Control
• Formulating these products at bench scale
• Assisting in the transfer of these to plant scale
• Blending and filling at bench scale to make trial formulations of products
• Customer support via updates or being available to answer questions on their product development

Our client has a flat hierarchy and employs around 40 people, this means that individuals here are immediately a major part of the success of the company and small things can have big impact. This means pointing out issues quickly if they are spotted and sometimes small things can lead to a huge time saving by 'catching’ issues early.

The formulation activity requires strong attention to detail and will see you assembling complex and sophisticated products that have key attributes and modes of action as a result.

You will be working on SOP’s and following instructions to begin with and as your experience builds you will be suggesting ideas to improve these and solve problems. The role takes a long time to fully learn and is very nuanced in terms of the range of products and progression offered as your knowledge grows along with your company impact over time.

Your background:

We are seeking someone who can bring any kind of laboratory experience and ideally will hold a degree level qualification in a scientific field.

You will be working with chemicals so have a good knowledge of chemistry. You will have good communication skills, this role will involve liaising with customers, production staff, and working in different groups and environments.

We are seeking someone who wants to be hands-on and will be happy to speak up if they can see something that isn’t right. The process of product manufacturer is complex and issues spotted early will save the company a great deal of time and money and keep things running efficiently. Strong communication skills and someone who will chip in with ideas is certainly sought!
