Market 36 Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of our client based in Witham for a Joinery Machinist to join their team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a high-end bespoke joinery environment, producing custom components for retail, commercial, and point-of-sale projects across the UK. The successful candidate will bring a passion for craftsmanship, a deep knowledge of woodworking machinery, and a proactive, hands-on approach to workshop operations.

Role Overview:

As a Joinery Machinist, you will be responsible for operating and overseeing a range of woodworking machinery to produce bespoke joinery components to a high standard. You’ll collaborate closely with joiners, project managers, and designers to ensure project timelines and specifications are met, while promoting health and safety and workshop efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain a variety of woodworking machinery including spindle moulders, edge banders, bandsaws, table saws, chop saws, planers, CNC routers, and hand tools
• Read and interpret complex technical drawings and cutting lists to produce accurate components
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery
• Promote and follow best practices in health, safety, and workmanship
• Carry out quality checks to ensure all output meets required specifications
• Support workshop management in production planning and machine maintenance
• Recommend and implement improvements to machining processes and workshop organisation

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a bespoke joinery or manufacturing environment
• Expert knowledge of woodworking machinery and tool setup
• Strong understanding of solid timber and panel materials and their machining properties
• Ability to interpret detailed technical joinery drawings
• High standard of craftsmanship and attention to detail
• Problem-solving mindset and ability to work on own initiative
• Good communication and team collaboration skills

Desirable:

• NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent)
• Experience with CNC machinery (e.g. Tekcel)
• Supervisory experience in a workshop or production environment
• Familiarity with LEAN or other efficient workshop practices
