Job Description :

We have an exciting opportunity available for those who would like to utilise their language ability (English and Japanese) and work within governmental organisation.

We're recruiting a Japanese speaking Research and Business assistant (English native level proficiency required), who is going to support various aspects of business between African and Japan.

Job descriptions:

  • Assisting with the preparation and running of seminars, study sessions, etc., mainly events hosted by the Africa Desk (arranging venues, sending out information emails, accepting applications, creating and enclosing materials, setting up the venue, reception and guidance, etc.)
  • Liaison and coordination regarding interviews with governments, organizations, companies, experts, etc. necessary for the project
  • Forming a network with governments, organizations, companies, experts, etc. necessary for the operation of seminars, including those hosted by the Africa Desk
  • Collecting information on politics, economy, industry, etc. related to target countries and regions in the Global South, including Africa (collecting information on various statistics, legal systems, industrial information, etc. mainly through the Internet, newspapers, participation in various seminars, interviews, etc.)
  • Creating various materials (PowerPoint materials, Business messages, regional and analytical report manuscripts)
  • Liaison, coordination, attendance, and note-taking for interviews with governments, organizations, companies, experts, etc. required for the research
  • Assistance with commissioned research (communication and coordination with contractors and within the company, confirmation of deliveries, various procedures)
  • Assistance with projects and research in target countries and regions, general affairs (taking minutes, preparing materials, answering phone calls, registering visitors, reserving meeting rooms, various procedures, filing, sending mail, etc.)

Requirements:

  • A native level of English proficiency both in oral and writing English documents suitable for business use.
  • Have a good level of communication skills in Japanese, equivalent to JLPT N2 or above
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Teams
  • Experience in business research, development and coordination role
  • Knowledge and experience in Africa would be advantage
  • Able to take on responsibility and challenging tasks in support of Japanese exporters and UK importers.

Conditions:

  • Full-time, temporary until Mar 2026
  • Hourly rate - £20-22/hour, depending on experience
  • Location - London
  • Annual leave - 37-38 days a year (inc. Bank holidays)
