IT Systems Engineer - In Technology Group Limited : Job Details

Role: Systems Engineer Sector: FinanceSalary: £40,000 + Location: Central London

My client is seeking a Systems Engineer to bolster and manage our infrastructure, ensuring operational stability, integrity, and efficiency for both in-house information systems and cloud services. Responsibilities include planning, designing, implementing, and supporting complex application and infrastructure projects.

You will troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues across Windows/UNIX systems, manage user and email accounts, administer network resources, and ensure system security. Additionally, tasks involve installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems, virtualization platforms, servers, networking, clustering, storage solutions, and software applications. You will also oversee OS, application, and anti-virus updates, optimize storage performance, and implement storage architectures based on industry standards.

Role requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Demonstrated proficiency in setting up, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows and UNIX/Linux environments
• Strong background in administering and optimizing application stacks
• Extensive Cloud expertise, particularly in AWS, O365, and Azure
• Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box)
• Proficiency in utilizing monitoring systems
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Octopus, Puppet, cfengine, and Chef
• Advanced scripting abilities (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python)
• Solid understanding of networking principles (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
• Ability to maintain a high level of motivation, positivity, and performance under pressure
• Collaborative approach to working with colleagues and clients, even under tight deadlines
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Attentive to detail and proactive in identifying opportunities for process improvement

Key responsibilities:

• Design and execute detailed deployment plans
• Create and update technical manuals for current systems
• Ensure smooth handover of new deployments to IT Network & Telco team with relevant documentation and training
• Assist Network & Telco team in project management for infrastructure projects, ensuring timely and quality delivery
• Offer support for deployed infrastructure as required
• Share expertise with fellow engineers and IT Operations team, providing guidance as needed
• Contribute to the development of new platforms and products using emerging technologies
• Implement and refine processes within the Firm's network and infrastructure
• Design and implement network management, provisioning, and enhancement tools in alignment with the Firm's strategies and objectives
