Interim Project Accountant
Local Authority | Hybrid Working (South East) | £275-£300 per day Inside IR35 | 6 Month Contract
We are currently supporting a local authority in the South East in their search for an Interim Project Accountanttoassist with the successful delivery of a key finance transformation programme.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented finance professional with strong project support experience to contribute to improvements in financial processes, documentation, and systems readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and manage detailed Excel schedules for example relating to statutory and management reporting, balance sheet accounts and journals
- Assist in the development of practical "How To" guides and learning materials, aligning with constitutional finance rules and audit controls
- Coordinate stakeholder meetings for financial improvement and gather relevant information, track actions and progress
- Collaborate with the Finance Systems Accountant and Senior Finance Business Partners to analyse historical balance sheet and I&E data
- Support the Finance Lead with process design and UAT/training arrangements
- Provide general administrative support across the finance project as required
Essential experience:
- Proven experience in a finance project within a public sector or local authority setting
- Advanced Excel skills and excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable working with a range of financial data and systems
- Able to manage stakeholders and track project actions to tight deadlines
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Knowledge of finance system change or implementation projects is highly desirable
