Sales Team Manager
Responsible for delivering profitable, compliant commercial growth through a high-performing team of 3-5 Commercial Sales Executives/Advisers.
Working closely with the Agency Partners, wider office leadership, Success in this role is measured not only in revenue and conversion but also in quality of advice, customer satisfaction, audit outcomes, and the strength of a collaborative, values led culture.
Provide day to day leadership, performance management, and development of the Commercial Sales Team to deliver profitable, compliant growth in line across all sectors .
- Use CRM systems to track pipeline stages, follow-ups, and conversion rates; intervene early where slippage occurs.
- Coordinate renewal strategy for key commercial accounts; ensure proactive contact well ahead of renewal date, with both your team and underwriters.
- Work with marketing/lead gen partners to maximise campaign response and lead quality.
- Attend local Networking Events
- Design and deliver structured onboarding plans covering systems access, product knowledge, sales process, compliance, and cultural integration.
- Conduct regular file/call quality checks against advice standards and FCA requirements.
- Track and remediate any audit findings, error trends, or near misses; escalate material risks promptly.
- Reinforce data protection, vulnerable customer care, and fair treatment of customers in all interactions.
- Maintain evidence logs for supervisory oversight and competence records in conjunction with Agency Governance & Compliance Manager.
- Monitor team KPIs: new business premium, retention %, cross sell ratio.
- Produce monthly reports for Agency leadership; highlight risks to target and proposed actions.
- Oversight of Sales incentive scheme for the Commercial Sales Team
- Embed scripting/prompts to identify cross sell and referral opportunities (e.g., Risk Management Services, Financial Planning, Personal Lines, Life/Pensions introductions depending on Agency permissions).
- Work with in-house specialists or referral partners to ensure seamless hand-offs and track conversion of referrals.
- Share customer insight with regional Sales Development Manager to shape campaigns and appetite.
- Ensure all activity is recorded in Agency
- Oversee document generation policy issuance follow up, and diary management standards to ensure that Contract Certainty standards are met
- Align with Agency credit control processes to reduce premium debt exposure.
- Support budgeting for sales incentives, training, travel, and recruitment costs.
- Use data and feedback loops to refine lead allocation rules, call scripts, and renewal workflows.
- Pilot new digital tools, MI dashboards, or marketing approaches and roll out best practice.
Candidate Profile
- Proven success managing or supervising a B2B sales or account development team (SME, farm, mid corporate, or broker environment).
- Track record of delivering to premium/revenue targets while maintaining compliance quality.
- Experience conducting call/file quality reviews and giving structured developmental feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, onboard, and develop sales talent.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within insurer tied agency, or commercial broking environment serving rural, farming, or SME clients.
- Familiarity with agricultural, rural business, and diversified enterprise insurance needs.
- Exposure to multi-site or matrix reporting structures.
Essential experience
- People leadership: coaching mindset, accountability, and empathetic management.
- Commercial acumen: understands pricing, underwriting appetites, and margin drivers.
- Sales process discipline: pipeline management, forecasting accuracy, and activity conversion.
- Communication: clear written and verbal communication; able to simplify technical cover.
- Compliance literacy: working knowledge of FCA regulation, IDD, T&C schemes, data protection (UK GDPR), and vulnerable customer guidance.
- Analytical capability: confident with MI dashboards, Excel/BI tools, and trend analysis.
Qualifications & Licensing
- Minimum: relevant insurance experience; willingness to pursue CII study if not already qualified.
