Rate: £38 per hour (via umbrella, Inside IR35)Contract: Until November 2025 (potentially longer)Start Date: ASAPLocation: Hybrid – Telford-based, with flexible working

Are you an experienced IRO and Conference Chair with a passion for safeguarding children and driving quality outcomes?

We are working on behalf of a Local Authority to secure an Independent Reviewing Officer & Child Protection Conference Chair on a hybrid, contract basis. This is a vital role ensuring independent oversight of care planning and safeguarding processes for children in need of protection or in the care of the local authority.

Job purpose:
  • Review care plans for children and young people who are in need of protection, are looked after by the Council, or are care leavers.

  • Provide independent oversight to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the care being delivered.

  • Monitor the Council’s performance in managing children’s cases and formally challenge any areas of concern or poor practice.

Main tasks:
  • Support the Council’s visions and priorities both internally and externally
  • Assist the Team Manager in planning team and service objectives
  • Identify and highlight resource issues to the Team Manager
  • Assist the Team Manager in ensuring that team and service objectives are delivered in the most cost effective manner, minimising waste
  • Asist the Team Manager in ensuring that the team and service meets their objectives and targets within agreed timeframes
  • Deliver standards which achieve equality of opportunity
  • Review plans for children and young people who are in need of protection, in the care of the Council or who are Care Leavers
Candidate Requirements:
  • Requirement to possess a post graduate qualification or equivalent professional qualification and currently registered with HCPC
  • Experience of managing or reviewing social care services for children in need of care or protection, resolving conflict/problems, managing staff and writing reports 
  • Detailed knowledge of child protection practice and procedures
  • Ability to effectively chair and manage complex meetings and make appropriate decisions and recommendations without immediate access to advice
