Job Opportunity: Independent Living Housing Officer (ILHO) – Temp Contract

Location: Covering East Dorset, Ferndown, and Verwood

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm

Requirements: Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work use

Overview:

This organisation is currently seeking a proactive and community-focused Independent Living Housing Officer (ILHO) to join their team on a temporary basis.

In this rewarding role, you'll work directly with customers living in Independent Living housing schemes, ensuring they feel supported, connected, and empowered to maintain their independence.

What you will be doing

• Be a dedicated point of contact for residents, providing enhanced housing management services.
• Carry out regular wellbeing “check-ins” and support planning to ensure customers remain safe and independent.
• Facilitate scheme meetings and encourage social inclusion through activities and community signposting.
• Conduct health and safety inspections using a risk-based approach to maintain safe living environments.
• Build strong relationships with onsite care teams, service providers, and external stakeholders.
• Handle tenancy management including casework, support, and where needed, enforcement.
• Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.
• Maintain accurate digital records and support continuous improvement in our services.

Skills and experience

• Experience in housing or a similar customer-focused environment.
• Knowledge of current housing issues and the needs of older, disabled, or vulnerable individuals.
• Strong interpersonal skills – empathetic, resilient, and confident in dealing with challenging situations.
• Excellent organisational and IT skills, including mobile working.
• A self-starter who thrives in a varied role with changing daily priorities.
• Comfortable managing performance, risks, and working within policies and procedures.
