Right Now Group are working with an exciting, growing Freight Forwarder based in Colnbrook who are looking to appoint an Import Manager to oversee the Operations. A confident, driven, and detail-oriented professional is required to lead, develop, and motivate the Imports team, ensuring service and quality targets are consistently achieved. The role involves overseeing the accurate and timely processing of all customs entries, implementing efficient procedures to manage Duty and Tax payments, and ensuring these are invoiced and collected from customers. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of HMRC customs clearance procedures and ensure full compliance at all times. Reporting directly to senior management, the Import Manager must be highly organised, an effective leader, and a collaborative team player.Salary: £45,000 - £50,000Location: Colnbrook / HeathrowShift: Monday to Friday (8am - 4pm)
Key Responsibilities of an Import Manager:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four import and customs professionals, including conducting appraisals and managing absence.
Serve as the primary point of contact for customs-related queries from customers, authorities, and internal teams.
Process customs clearance entries (CDS) for courier and cargo imports across multiple UK airports, leading by example in operational duties.
Create jobs, process billing, and manage documentation using freight management systems, ensuring adherence to security procedures.
Perform Border Inspection (BI) tasks for External Temporary Storage Facilities (ETSF).
Manage and maintain the internal customs system, ensuring integration with customs software platforms.
Stay up to date with changes in customs legislation, tariffs, and procedures, and communicate updates to the team.
Oversee the classification of goods, including HS codes, valuation, and origin declarations.
Drive continuous improvement in processes and implement effective control measures.
Ensure full compliance with HMRC policies and procedures.
Collaborate closely with operations and finance departments.
Oversee low-value bulk and high-value customs clearances.
Perform monthly reconciliation of Deferment and FAS accounts.
Requirements for an Import Manager:
Proven experience in import operations and customs clearance management.
Strong knowledge of HMRC procedures, tariffs, and UK customs regulations.
Experience using CDS, ASM Sequoia, and other freight/customs management systems.
Leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop a team.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
