Hybrid Cloud Specialist (VMware/ AWS)

Location: Bristol (hybrid- 2 days a week onsite)

Duration: FTC until August 2026Salary: £50,000 - £56,000 per annum

Hours: 35 hours per week

Hybrid Cloud Specialist - About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to become a key technical authority within a flagship UK-wide research platform. You'll be responsible for designing, deploying, and managing hybrid cloud environments-both public (AWS) and on-premises (VMware)-to support advanced R&D

You'll collaborate with researchers, technical teams, and external stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions, contribute to grant applications, and influence the evolution of a national hybrid cloud infrastructure.

What You'll Be Doing

• Deploy, build and manage multi-tenancy cloud platforms (VMware & AWS)
• Provide expert input into infrastructure design, procurement, and deployment
• Support experimental research through cloud engineering and troubleshooting
• Lead technical documentation and compliance efforts

What You'll Bring

Essential:

• Proven expertise in hybrid cloud engineering (VMware & AWS)
• Advanced knowledge of VMware technologies (vSphere, NSX, vSAN, vCloud, NSX)
• Strong AWS experience (VPC, IAM, EC2, Lambda, EKS, etc.)
• Solid networking and security skills
• Excellent documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Relevant qualifications or 3+ years of hands-on experience

Desirable:

• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK
• Familiarity with OpenStack, OpenShift, Azure, and monitoring tools
• Understanding of cloud financial management and orchestration
