As part of the Church of England, we serve over a million people through a network of around 300 churches and 73 church schools.Based at Jubilee House in the beautiful market town of Southwell, the Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF) is the registered charity and company limited by guarantee through which the Diocese operates. You'll be joining an organisation with a clear vision of Living Hope for the city, towns and villages of Nottinghamshire and beyond.Your Role as HR LeaderReporting to the Director of Finance, you will lead the HR function as a trusted partner to both the Jubilee House Leadership Team and the Bishop's Core Team. This is a strategic role where you'll shape the people agenda across the Diocese while providing hands-on support to parishes navigating employment challenges.Strategic Partnership (45%)
- Partnering with senior leadership on strategic objectives, workforce planning, and HR operations
- Developing policies and procedures that support our mission
- Leading organisational development and cultural change initiatives
Expert Advisory Role (30%)
- Serving as the primary point of contact on employment law and practice matters
- Advising on employee relations, clergy terms of service, and complex HR cases
- Keeping leadership teams updated on legislative changes and best practice
Specialist Clergy Support (15%)
- Working with the Diocesan Registrar to advise on clergy HR procedures
- Supporting formal processes including absence, grievance, disciplinary, and capability procedures
- Interpreting the Ecclesiastical Offices (Terms of Service) Measure 2009
Parish Enablement (10%)
- Equipping and enabling parishes with employment law guidance
- Supporting parishes through complex HR cases
- Developing templates and resources for parish use
You'll also serve as the Diocese's Data Protection Officer, ensuring full compliance with GDPR and data protection requirements.Leading a Small but Mighty TeamYou'll provide leadership and mentoring to the HR Officer (who also serves as Executive PA to the Chief Executive and Archdeacons), sharing management responsibility with the Chief Executive. This collaborative approach reflects our values of mutual support and shared ministry.Who We're Looking ForEssential Faith Requirement There is a genuine occupational requirement for the post holder to be a committed Christian in the Anglican tradition or another member denomination of Churches Together in England. You'll need a strong understanding and empathy with the aims, ethos and beliefs of the Christian faith and its expression through the Church of England.Professional Excellence
- CIPD qualified with relevant professional experience
- Broad-based HR generalist background in complex environments, operating at both strategic and operational levels
- Solid understanding of employment law with ability to interpret and apply it practically
- Proven credibility with senior leaders and experience advising on complex employment issues
- Organisational development and cultural change management experience

Desirable Knowledge of and preferably experience with church organisations (e.g., PCCs) would be advantageous but is not essential.What We Offer
- Competitive salary: £47,495 - £50,436 depending on experience
- Generous pension: 10% of salary contributed by the Diocese
