The Role
As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced and proactive HR professional to establish robust people processes and lead the design and implementation of a fit-for-purpose HR system tailored to our culture and scale. Elegant Clutter runs on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) and we want to embed this framework, including its HR processes, across the business. This role is crucial in building the foundations for a supportive, compliant, and future-proof HR function. Employee retention and engagement are primary objectives for this person.
Purpose of the job
As the HR & Office Manager, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive workplace culture, ensuring smooth office operations, and supporting the full employee lifecycle. This role combines the usual HR responsibilities with day to day hands-on office management hence being office based.
Primary responsibilities of the role
- Oversee key stages of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, contract administration, and offboarding—conducting exit interviews and providing support in cases with potential tribunal risk.
- Maintain and update HR systems and personnel records in accordance with GDPR and internal data governance policies.
- Coordinate training and development programmes, ensuring all staff receive role-specific and compliance-related training aligned with departmental needs.
- Schedule and support performance reviews at regular intervals (quarterly and annually and more frequently for new starters).
- Address employee relations matters with discretion and professionalism, and lead engagement initiatives to promote retention and workplace wellbeing.
- Ensure full compliance with UK employment legislation and internal HR policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Finance team to resolve payroll-related queries and ensure accurate reporting.
- Produce HR reports and workforce metrics for review by the senior leadership team, supporting strategic decision-making.
- Oversee daily office operations, working environment and ensuring all staff have the tools to succeed in their roles.
- Facilitate internal communications and assist in the planning and execution of team events and staff engagement activities.
- Support with training and compliance of Health & Safety matters
- Assist with IT and phone-related issues, liaising with external IT support to ensure timely resolution and adherence to data protection and cybersecurity standards.
Skills, attributes and experience
- Proven experience in an HR Manager or Business Partner role within a fast-paced environment (CIPD an advantage)
- Experience in selecting and implementing HR systems from the ground up.
- Knowledge of UK employment law and best practices in HR.
- Experience in various areas of compliance, including Health and Safety.
- A passion for fostering great cultures.
- Well organized with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Tech-savvy, with an eye for tools that enhance workflow and culture.
- A natural and warm people-person with the ability to quickly build relationships
- Someone who shares the company values of taking ownership and finding the right way to get things done.
Success measures
- Fully implemented an appropriate HRIS with at least 90% staff adoption.
- Core HR policies in place, accessible and understood.
- Positive feedback from leadership team on HR function support.
- Defined longer-term HR roadmap, approved by senior leadership including metrics and targets for employee satisfaction (e-Net Promoter Score)
