Job Title: Housing Solutions Officer
Hours: 36 per week
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Housing Solutions Officer to play a key role in preventing and relieving homelessness, supporting residents to access sustainable housing solutions, and ensuring fair and timely decision-making under relevant housing legislation. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will use your customer service skills, knowledge of housing policy and legislation, and understanding of local support networks to make a real difference to people's lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personalised housing advice, guidance, and case management to residents in housing need.
- Assess, interview, and verify applications under Parts VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- Determine duties owed to households and create Personal Housing Plans to help prevent or relieve homelessness.
- Liaise with landlords, housing providers, statutory agencies, and partner organisations to secure suitable housing options.
- Support residents in navigating services, benefits, and support available to sustain their tenancies.
- Respond promptly to referrals, including 'duty to refer' cases, and ensure accurate record keeping in line with data protection requirements.
- Work with vulnerable residents, including those with multiple and complex needs, to access appropriate support and accommodation.
- Handle enquiries, complaints, and correspondence from residents, advocates, and other stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
- Contribute to service improvements, outreach activities, and partnership initiatives to reduce the use of temporary accommodation.
About You
- Experience in housing advice, homelessness prevention, or a related customer service role.
- Strong working knowledge of housing legislation, policy, and tenancy rights.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with residents from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to manage complex cases with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Organised, proactive, and able to work to deadlines in a busy environment.
- Skilled in accurate record keeping and use of IT systems.
- A team player who thrives on finding practical solutions and achieving positive outcomes for residents.
