We are seeking a Housing Applications Officer to join a Southeast London local authority. The role involves processing applications for service users wishing to join the Homesearch bidding scheme, verifying documentation, and providing advice on alternative housing options. Experience with Northgate is advantageous.

Day to day of the role:
  • Register and assess housing applicants on the Housing Registrations database, making final decisions on eligibility in accordance with Council policy and housing legislation.
  • Provide detailed advice to service users and external agencies regarding priority for housing as outlined in the Council’s allocations scheme.
  • Offer information and support, including training to internal departments on housing registration policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development of fraud prevention measures and make referrals to relevant departments, other Local Authorities, Housing Associations, and agencies.
  • Maintain systems to record and amend housing applications, produce statistical data for performance monitoring, and contribute to service improvements.
  • Develop and update the applications functions of the Housing Applications database.
  • Handle enquiries and complaints from the public, other departments, and agencies, including responding to freedom of information requests.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in a similar role within a local authority or housing sector.
  • Familiarity with Northgate or similar housing applications systems is advantageous.
  • Ability to assess need against a scheme or policy.
  • Strong communication skills to provide advice and guidance to service users and stakeholders.
  • Competency in maintaining accurate records and producing statistical data.
  • Ability to handle enquiries and complaints effectively.
