Homeless Prevention Officers

  • Location: Tameside Council
  • Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (5 - 6 months)
  • Pay Rate: £12.60 per hour (PAYE)

Tameside Council are looking for two highly motivated and enthusiastic Homeless Prevention Officers to join our dynamic team at Tameside Housing Advice for a fixed term of 5-6 months. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Council’s statutory homelessness and housing needs service, which includes homeless prevention, housing advice, and more.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Participate in a duty rota to provide face-to-face services to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, which may include office visits, home visits, or other locations across the area.
  • Deliver a comprehensive, proactive homelessness prevention service, working with households to prevent and relieve homelessness and identify housing solutions.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for individuals at risk of homelessness, providing advice and assistance.
  • Conduct efficient and effective front-line assessments and prevention services, ensuring the Council’s legal duties are met in accordance with housing legislation.
  • Complete assessments and investigations of homeless approaches and applications in line with statutory duties under relevant housing acts.
  • Work proactively with external partner agencies to promote the homelessness prevention agenda.
  • Provide full housing needs and homeless assessments for vulnerable clients, ensuring appropriate housing solutions are met.
  • Engage actively with community groups, external partners, charities, and other organisations to reduce homelessness across the Borough.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Understanding of the causes and reasons for homelessness and working knowledge of current legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with vulnerable people across a range of issues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with customers and a range of partners to secure suitable housing solutions.
  • Familiarity with Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002, Localism Act 2011, and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Full UK Driving Licence, and access to a Vehicle
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service
