Fire, Health and Safety Officer

My client is seeking a dedicated Fire, Health and Safety Officer to join their team. This role involves developing, reviewing, evaluating, implementing, and managing the school's Fire, Health & Safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and best practices.
Day-to-day of the role:
Management & Oversight
- Collaborate with the Head of Finance to plan annual Fire, Health & Safety programmes and budgets.
- Manage procurement and supplier relationships for facilities and services.
- Support external contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with safeguarding and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records and conduct regular site checks in line with best practices.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Act as the nominated Health & Safety Officer, overseeing all related policies and procedures.
- Ensure risk assessments are completed, documented, and regularly reviewed.
- Investigate and report incidents, including RIDDOR submissions.
- Maintain PPE standards and COSHH compliance.
Fire, Electrical & Water Safety
- Organise fire safety inspections, drills, and equipment checks.
- Oversee PAT testing and electrical/gas appliance servicing.
- Conduct water safety checks, including legionella monitoring and pool management.
Site & Vehicle Management
- Ensure daily site safety in collaboration with the Site Manager.
- Manage the school’s vehicle fleet, ensuring servicing, documentation, and driver compliance.
- Act as a reserve driver when needed.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with Trustees, attend relevant meetings, and support external inspections.
- Provide updates and reports on safety matters and site projects.
- Maintain effective communication with staff, contractors, and visitors.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in Fire, Health and Safety management, preferably in an educational or similar setting.
- IOSH qualification is essential.
- Must be happy to undergo Enhanced DBS check.
- Strong understanding of Health and Safety legislation and best practices.
- Ability to develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Relevant certifications in Health and Safety are highly desirable.
