Job Description :

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated health and safety officer to join our team and provide competent health and safety support to managers and staff across Council departments, schools and partner organisations.

We are looking for a high level of technical expertise and excellent interpersonal skills in order to deliver our proactive assurance plan as well as managing a reactive workload in responding to queries and dealing with incident reports.

The post holder will:

  • Monitor adherence to health and safety legislation and HCC policy and procedures via our audit and inspection programme. Ensuring effective monitoring and data recording.
  • Provide health and safety advice and support to managers and staff within HCC, schools and partner organisations. So, a broad and secure knowledge of H&S legislation and practice is key, with the ability to build good relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of health and safety training and support our Health and Safety Co-ordinators across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the Council’s Health and Safety guidance ensuring this is regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Monitor accident and incident reports and statistics identifying trends and assisting with investigations / debriefs as required

You will have a successful track record of working in a similar role, working collaboratively in a small team and successfully providing health and safety advice and support to a range of clients.

Frequently required to prioritise your workload, excellent time management and organisation skills are required to provide a service focussed on effective risk management.

As a key part of the role you will be able to undertake proactive and reactive visits, accident investigations, audits and inspections, and so must be able to build good relationships and provide accurate advice both verbally and in written reports.

You will have a NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent as a minimum.

The ideal candidate will be qualified to NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent. With a commitment to continuing professional development e.g., through membership of IOSH or similar.

You will be required to travel to sites across Hertfordshire thus applicants must have a driving licence that is valid in the UK.

The successful applicant will be competent in the of use of Microsoft Office.

Driving Roles Only: As part of this role, you will be required to travel to other HCC Sites/Residences either using your own mode of transport or a company car. In light of this, the ability to drive and/or travel around the County is required for this role a DVLA check will be required on appointment.
