Health & Safety Manager
- Daily Rate: £350 - £400 (via Umbrella)
- Location: Bury
- Job Type: Contract, 37 hours per week
We are seeking a Health & Safety Manager to lead and manage health and safety initiatives across Bury Council. This role requires a candidate with a NEBOSH Level 7 qualification and extensive experience in local government or a similar complex, multi-site public-facing service.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Create and implement health and safety policies and procedures.
- Manage health and safety staff and contracts, including Occupational Health.
- Represent the Council in internal and external health and safety forums.
- Support managers and leaders in understanding their health and safety responsibilities.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and promote a safety-first culture.
- Develop and monitor health and safety policies and systems.
- Report risks and advise senior leaders on health and safety matters.
- Oversee audits, training, and compliance checks.
- Manage Occupational Health contracts and investigate incidents to ensure preventative measures.
- Deliver health and safety training and communications.
- Support stakeholders with expert advice and promote Council values and behaviours.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Experience in a similar role within a complex, multi-site public service.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Experience managing a professional team.
- Ability to train and influence diverse audiences.
- Organised and able to prioritise workload.
- Strategic thinking and data analysis skills.
- Desirable: Experience working in a Local Authority setting.
