Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £41,000 - £51,000 (Dependent on experience)
Join a business where safety is more than a priority—it’s a culture.
We’re looking for a proactive Health and Safety Advisor to support our Canvey and Coryton terminals, two upper-tier COMAH sites at the heart of our operations. In this critical role, you’ll work hand-in-hand with site leadership to drive our HSSEQ (Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Quality) standards forward, ensuring compliance, fostering a positive safety culture, and helping our teams stay safe and effective every day.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in high-risk environments, enjoys engaging with people at all levels, and is passionate about continuous improvement.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Act as a trusted HSSEQ partner to site leaders, supporting safe, compliant, and high-performing operations across both terminals.
- Lead inspections, audits, and emergency preparedness activities, ensuring legislative and internal compliance.
- Champion a culture of “Visible Felt Leadership” by coaching managers and engaging with the wider workforce.
- Investigate incidents, identify trends, and drive improvement actions to reduce risk and boost safety performance.
- Support external inspections and maintain the site's UKAS Accreditation.
- Deliver engaging training, inductions, toolbox talks, and safety communications.
- Take the lead on risk assessments, contractor management, emergency response planning, and occupational health risk control.
- Facilitate safety meetings, walkarounds, and behavioural observations to recognise good practice and tackle unsafe behaviours.
What We’re Looking For:
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 5 qualification.
- Background in science or engineering (preferred).
- Certified ISO 9001 auditor (ideally with ISO 14001 and 45001 knowledge).
- Experienced in COMAH / high-hazard environments with strong understanding of process safety management.
- Skilled in hazard evaluation (HAZID/HAZOP), risk assessments, emergency planning, and incident investigations.
- A confident communicator and coach, comfortable influencing people at all levels.
- Strong knowledge of HSSEQ systems and best practices.
- At least 5 years’ experience in an operational or engineering environment, ideally within a major hazard industry.
