Head of Software Development | Remote/Hybrid | £120,000 per annum

Location: Cardiff

Remote/Hybrid: 1 day on site every 7 to 14 days

Salary: £120,000 + private healthcare

We are seeking a Head of Web & App Development to lead the software development teams and create a high-performance culture that enables this business achieve its goal of being the global leader in development and delivery of technology based tracking & navigation systems.

This person will be building a new team for a greenfield development project to further enhance the company offering to their customers.

• You will be accountable for creating a highly stable, secure, scalable and extensible platforms that enables the product suite to evolve at pace.
• You will define and execute the strategy for engineering, working cross-functionally to ensure key stakeholders, business and product requirements are aligned.
• As Head of Web & App Development, you will report to the Chief Operating Officer. You will work with the Lead App Developer and the Lead Web Developer to own the strategy for the department and set the technical direction of your teams.
• You will inspire and grow an outstanding team to create scalable, high-quality systems which form a central element of the customer portfolio.
• You will be deeply excited and interested in evolving technologies and driven by how to apply these to solve complex challenges as the platform and business rapidly grow.
• Experience of Radar, Sonar, GPS, GNNS, Satellite systems would be a bonus.

Your main responsibilities will be:

As the Head of Web & Development you will be responsible for driving best-practice software development processes across the engineering teams and define the overall organizational design for this crucial growth stage.

You will be expected to embrace and promote company values of Innovation, Quality, Responsibility, Team working and Ambition. You will attract, grow and retain high-performing software development teams through coaching and mentoring, and inspire a culture of innovation and quality.

You will work with the Product Management team, following Agile working practices, to deliver high performing Web delivered and Mobile App products.

Requirements

• Leadership & Management: Demonstrated excellence in leading and managing a 20+ person, high-performing, agile engineering organisation -- including attracting, mentoring, inspiring, and driving excellent results from an exceptional engineering team. Experience of representing Engineering at the highest level inside an organisation, influencing strategy and delivering outcomes that drive the business forward.
• Technical Depth & Breadth: Previous experience with global cloud-hosted internet platforms and sophisticated mobile app solutions, with strong understanding in technology ranging from infrastructure and operations to data architectures.
• Experience of modern web and mobile app technologies, with rapid deploy, automated scaling, and high volume, high availability distributed systems. In depth experience of engineering delivery at scale with a demonstrable track record of outstanding results.
