A major player in the UK transport sector is seeking a forward-thinking and influential Head of People & Culture to join its senior leadership team. With a workforce of over 8,000 employees, this role is central to driving cultural transformation and modernising the people function.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading a multi-disciplinary HR team spanning recruitment, L&D, employee relations, and more
- Working in close partnership with the MD and executive team to define and deliver the people agenda
- Overseeing the rollout of new HR technology, including an HCM and ATS
- Designing and leading initiatives to boost engagement and strengthen company culture, particularly among remote and field-based employees
- Acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, bringing both challenge and support
- Ensuring compliance with employment law and best practice HR standards
What we're looking for:
- Strong experience in unionised environments - this is essential
- A proven ability to drive cultural and organisational change while building trust and credibility
- Experience leading a large HR team in a complex, fast-paced setting
- Strategic HR insight and the ability to operate effectively at group or executive level
- Gravitas, emotional intelligence, and the ability to influence at all levels
- A hands-on, visible leader with a strong focus on engaging a dispersed workforce - particularly remote and field-based teams
- Experience within complex or matrixed organisational structures
The role is based in South London, with an expectation of being on-site 4 days per week to maintain strong visibility and connection with the business.
