Head of Legal - Insurance - 12 month FTC - Robert Walters : Job Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced lawyer to take on the role of Head of Legal at a leading specialist insurance and reinsurance broker. This role offers the chance to work in an international environment, operating within the prestigious Lloyd's market. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage a diverse range of legal work, including insurance-related legal tasks, litigation, employment and general corporate/commercial matters. In addition to this, you will have the responsibility of managing a Legal Counsel and Trainee Lawyer.

This is a 12-month FTC, commencing in August.

As the Head of Legal, you will be responsible for overseeing a wide array of legal tasks. This small but cohesive team, comprised of the Head of Legal, Legal Counsel and Trainee Lawyer handle all international legal work for the business. Approximately 85% of the work is insurance related (such as broker agreements, sub-broker agreements, Terms of Business Agreements (TOBA) and questions relating to wordings), while the other 15% is litigation, employment and corporate/commercial.

The business is well supported by a range of external counsel, so you will manage work flow to external counsel as/when needed. This organisation offers flexible working, with most employees coming into the office 2-3 days a week.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working at an insurer/insurance broker, ideally in a commercial role. Experience with litigation/employment related matters is advantageous, but not essential.
