The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a national multi-site business with Head Offices in Derby. They are a successful infrastructure focussed company specialising in offering end-to-end solutions across the UK and Ireland and collaborating with some very well-known brands.

This business employs up to 1000 staff, including field and administrative personnel and they are looking for an interim Head of HR to join a well-established HR team until at least September and highly likely beyond this.

As the Head of HR, you will be a key leader within the HR function, strategically driving improvements and efficiencies across the business in close collaboration with colleagues and subject matter experts. You will take ownership of the development, execution, and delivery of significant HR projects and strategic objectives, ensuring alignment with the overall business strategy.   Your key focus areas will be:

  • Spearheading multiple restructures
  • TUPE out
  • Change Management
  • Employment Tribunal preparation and support
  • Internal Organisational designs

Please be aware that this job will be located 5 days a week in Derby and will involve occasional travel to other sites as required. It would be ideal for candidates who have previously worked in an Engineering/Manufacturing/Construction style environment and are open to a quick start!

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Partner with the HR Director to lead the strategic planning and delivery of HR projects that support business objectives and KPIs.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex employee relations issues, including grievances, disciplinaries, restructures, and Employment Tribunal cases.
  • Provide strategic, risk-aware HR guidance grounded in strong business acumen.
  • Promote and embed best practice HR standards, ensuring legal compliance and high-quality advice across all management levels.
  • Deliver insightful, data-driven HR reporting to support workforce planning and senior decision-making.
  • Lead the design and implementation of HR policies and initiatives that drive performance and align with company goals.
  • Oversee compensation and benefits strategy to maintain market competitiveness and internal equity.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities consistent with a senior HR leadership role.

About You

This contract would suit a CIPD (MCIPD) qualified HR professional with substantial and progressive HR generalist experience and demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and strategic impact.  

You will show exceptional strategic thinking, organisational, and communication skills alongside demonstrable leadership capabilities with a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and its strategic application within a business context.  

You will be a proactive and influential team leader with exceptional stakeholder management, customer service, and complex problem-solving abilities. It will also important that you can show significant experience in leading and supporting line managers through organisational change initiatives, demonstrating resilience and strategic foresight.
