In this pivotal role, the Head of Finance will lead a dedicated finance team, collaborate closely with the Finance Director and senior leadership, and drive the development of financial strategies, process improvements, and key implementations.

Description
The successful candidate will likely have the following responsibilities:
Relationships and Staffing:
- Lead, manage and develop the Finance Team, enabling them to deliver effectively and provide strategic support to organisations priorities, initiatives and projects.
- Assist with recruitment, training and appraisal of new team members as required.
- Ensure all finance staff are fully trained in the use of accounting and related software.
- Build and maintain open, supportive relationships with colleagues across the org to ensure a high-quality, responsive service.
Strategic Financial Management and Development:
- Support the Director of Finance in developing the financial strategy, building robust long-term financial models through scenario planning and analysis.
- Undertake regular bench-marking of finances, providing analysis and advice.
- Contribute to the assessment and implementation of new systems and processes to improve the accessibility, accuracy and efficiency of financial data.
- Regularly review the performance of the accounting software to ensure it remains fit for purpose.
- Prepare the annual budget and forecast updates for discussion with the Head of Finance.
- Lead on preparation of annual accounts and act as key liaison for the external audit.
- Assess and communicate the financial impact of strategy, legislative changes and sector developments to relevant stakeholders.
- Take responsibility for reviewing and developing the internal control environment.
Operational Financial Management:
- Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of financial policies and procedures.
- Produce timely monthly management accounts, dashboards and management information, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and variance analysis.
- Support budget holders with information and guidance to enable effective financial management.
- Act as a key financial advisor/partner across all areas of school operations: ops, HR, property, IT, development and marketing.
- Manage all aspects of cash flow, including bank accounts and payment processes, identifying risks and opportunities and ensuring financing and covenant compliance.
- Oversee completion of VAT and tax returns.
- Oversee billing, credit control and accounts payable
Profile
The successful candidate will likely have the following profile:
- Qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Strong ability to develop and embed robust processes and controls.
- Track record of implementing system and procedural improvements.
- Experience managing and developing a small finance team.
- Evidence of initiative, drive and commitment to ongoing improvement.
- Excellent IT skills, particularly in Excel (with ability to use formulae to transform data).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence non-finance colleagues.
- Highly organised with excellent time management; able to prioritise and manage own workload.
- High level of honesty and integrity.
- Resilient and calm under pressure, able to meet deadlines and deliver accurate work.
- Professional, with a warm and approachable manner.
Job Offer
This role offers a competitive salary of £50,000-£60,000 DOE plus great wider benefits.
