Position: Head of Engineering

Salary: Up to £90,000

Office Location: Sheffield

The Role: A new, exciting position has now been created for a Head of Engineering to join a rapidly growing start up as they work towards the development of their 2nd generation of products. The company works with highly innovative sensor-based technology which is based around complex electronics, mechanical and optical components.

They are looking for a senior level hire who has a technical background and experience of taking complex designs from concept through to the final stages of manufacture. The company design and develop products that use a laser source and amplifies it in a more efficient way to anything currently available on the market. The technology development is gaining interest from some of the most the biggest company names in the electronics sector. These companies are from a wide range of industry sectors that include automotive, defence and telecoms.

As Head of Engineering, you will be tasked with developing and maintaining processes, systems and structure whilst encouraging and directing innovative thinking and creative design. You will oversee the growth of the engineering team and implement new processes and procedures in order to achieve customer requirements as efficiently as possible. The engineers within the business need the leadership in place of someone who can ensure that when an order comes in for a high volume number of their product, this can be executed efficiently, moving away from currently working on small numbers for Research purposes.

Our client has secured £4m in funding from some of the leading names in the VC world and are looking to hire a Head of Engineering to bring a strong, calming and assured engineering mind to a team of very bright, academic but junior design engineers who need guidance from a Head of Engineering who has several years' experience in a technical leadership role.

The company is now in revenue and has an exciting roadmap ahead of them including a variety of orders for bespoke devices and innovative solutions. So now if the perfect time to be joining the company at this exciting stage with the opportunity to make a real impact in how the company grows and functions moving forward. You should have proven experience taking a product that is manufactured in small volume e.g. for prototype, through to a mass manufactured commercial product that has the required quality.

The Head of Engineering is likely to be from an electronics or mechanical engineering background and have demonstrable experience in taking highly complex products from conception to high volume production whilst having the ability to report on project and people performance. Any knowledge or experience of working with subcontract houses and outsourcing partners for high volume low cost devices is desirable.
