You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of VAT and international tax compliance while acting as the main liaison for the group’s external tax advisors and managing a team of two direct reports.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, cross-border tax projects, including VAT returns across the UK and EU, transfer pricing, and strategic tax planning in the international context. If you have a strong background in international tax law, VAT regulations, and a strategic mindset, this is your chance to make a significant impact on a global scale.

Key Responsibilities

Global VAT Compliance:

  • Lead the accurate and timely filing of VAT returns for the global business (primarily UK and EU jurisdictions), ensuring compliance with local regulations and minimizing exposure to penalties.
  • Manage VAT queries, reviews and investigations and ensure documentation is in order

International Tax Strategy & Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the direct and indirect tax strategy for the Group.
  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of transfer pricing policies across different regions, ensuring compliance with local tax rules.

Tax Projects & Planning:

  • Lead global tax projects, such as capital allowance reviews, joint ventures, and new ventures, ensuring all tax implications are properly considered.
  • Manage tax impact assessments for the Group’s commercial activities, ensuring that international tax issues are identified and resolved.
  • Work on transfer pricing documentation and ensure that Group-wide tax policies align with local and international tax laws.

Estimated Tax Charges & Disclosures:

  • Prepare tax provisions, including VAT and international tax components, for the Group’s financial statements and ensure proper disclosures for audit.
  • Develop and maintain tax forecasting models to project tax liabilities and tax-related cash flows, with a particular focus on international tax obligations.
  • Reconcile international tax-related balance sheet control accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support the Chief Finance Officer with Board reporting on international tax matters, VAT, and cross-border tax risks.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects related to global tax compliance and strategy.

Person SpecificationWe are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate the following key attributes:

Accountability and Ownership:

Full responsibility for global VAT and international tax matters, ensuring all areas are compliant and optimised. Drive results with confidence and accuracy.

Enthusiasm:

A passion for international tax, VAT, and tax strategy. Stay on top of global regulatory changes and proactively seek ways to optimise tax performance.

Creativity:

Approach complex international tax challenges with innovative solutions, always looking for ways to improve efficiency and structure cross-border operations effectively.

Team Player:

Collaborate well with all stakeholders, building effective working relationships across different functions and regions.

Customer Focused:

Focus on supporting the business’ needs by providing clear, actionable tax advice and ensuring compliance while adding value to the organisation’s goals.

Key Requirements:

Experience: At least 5 years in an international tax role with a focus on VAT, cross-border tax planning, and transfer pricing. Experience with UK, EU, and international tax regulations is essential.

Qualifications: ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of international VAT law and global tax compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience with transfer pricing, VAT planning, and international tax structures.
  • Ability to prepare detailed tax provisions and manage complex global tax calculations.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills.
