Grounds Maintenance Operative

Location: Monmouthshire / Raglan

Contract Type: Full-time

Hours: 37 hours/week (12 weeks)

Salary: £12.85 per hour

We’re looking for a motivated and reliable Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our dedicated outdoor services team. This is a varied and hands-on role, perfect for someone who takes pride in outdoor work, has an eye for detail, and values community service.

• Grass cutting in open spaces, schools, and public areas using handheld and ride-on equipment
• General grounds maintenance: shrub bed care, annual bedding, landscaping, and arboriculture tasks
• Litter collection, bin emptying, fly-tipping response, and sports facility upkeep
• Grave digging and cemetery duties (training provided)
• Vehicle and equipment safety checks and cleanliness
• Supporting emergency responses (e.g., snow clearance, flood support) as part of a standby rota
• Occasional waste collection support in exceptional staff shortage situations

• A clean, valid driving license (HGV licence is a plus)
• Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or similar outdoor work
• Strong awareness of Health & Safety practices and willingness to follow council policies
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Pride in delivering quality, efficient work
• Flexible approach to hours, including weekend/bank holiday availability when required
• Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
• Willingness to undertake all necessary training
• Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential
