Fitness Instructor - Elysium Healthcare : Job Details

Join the team at Thornford Park as a Fitness Instructor, where you will work 37.5 hours between Monday to Friday and be a part of meaningful change. You will join the Occupational Therapy team, where you will facilitate all fitness-based activities within the Occupational Therapy timetable. You'll enjoy support from the OT team, which consist of Registered Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants.    

As a part of the programme, you'll explore and promote different elements of a healthy lifestyle, covering key topics each week such as the importance of exercise, food groups and lifestyle choices. You'll provide individual and group sessions within different locations, including a fully equipped gym and sports halls.

Your responsibilities will include to:

• Competently, prepare, design, deliver, manage, and evaluate personal training programmes, group fitness and hospital-wide exercise sessions.
• Complete PARQ (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) assessments and risk assessments.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding and be able to educate others on the anatomy and physiology and its relation to exercise and health.
• Educate service users on nutrition and physical activity and health.
• Carry out audits and service maintenance on the gym and fitness equipment.
• Work collaboratively with members of the OT department and other disciplines.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

• Previous fitness instruction experience
• Knowledge of mental health
• Completion of the relevant ‘Personal trainer education’
• Previous experience in designing and delivering personal training programmes  
• Some knowledge of nutrition/healthy eating
• Experience of working in a mental health setting is not essential
• Knowledge of mental health conditions and how they can impact motivation is crucial
