Title: Financial Controller - Maternity Cover (12 months)
Location: Belmont, Sutton, SM2
(An office presence is important with this role, but some flexibility in respect of WFH can be discussed if required).
Hours: 08:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday
Salary Range: £60k - £75k dependent upon experience
Job Overview: You will be working in a friendly office environment, with an open-door policy, located on the high street of Belmont Village, close to the station and near Sutton and Banstead. Easy parking, both on site (first come-first served) and around the local area.
- Ideally available to start early September - we are looking for a self-motivated and progressive individual, with team leading skills, to join our rapidly growing Group within the construction sector and cover the current Financial Controller’s maternity leave and develop as part of the senior team. - Group turnover has grown significantly over recent years and is expected to reach £20m in the current year.
- We are looking for someone to maintain the high standards of financial reporting and continue the progress already made in developing robust systems and processes to enable future growth. The deliverables of the role will be:
Assume control of the financial reporting of all companies.
o Work with the senior members of the team to drive reporting accuracy and act as robust and reliable Finance support to the team.
o Proactively challenge financial performance.
o Ensure tight controls over cash-flow.
o Deliver a budget and oversee the year end.

Person Specification:
- Preferably, Qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with minimum 2-3 years post qualification experience. However, candidates who have strong proven QBE (qualified by experience), with other qualifications such as AAT will be considered.
- An ability to identify problems and issues from day-to-day operations and analysing costs reports.
- Demonstrate great attention to detail.
- Bring strong, effective communications skills at all levels.
- Confident to challenge senior management when necessary and provide efficient financial support to the business.
- Able to identify commercial opportunities and work independently, or with the team, to deliver improvements to the bottom line.
Desirable:
- Construction industry experience.
- SME experience.
- Proficient working knowledge of Sage 50.
- Knowledge of "lean processes" or process improvement, and experience in delivering.
- Group Accounting experience - our flagship company est. over 30 years are leading Mechanical & Electrical engineers; the Groups other trading companies incl. Ventilation and Ducting experts, Building Services Maintenance and a Building and a Property Development business.
Duties:
- Management and professional development of two staff, Payroll & Accts Manager and Accts. Asst.
- Develop and document first class processes required to lay foundations for growth and support of the business.
- Ensure ledgers are reconciled and maintained to the highest standards.
- Preparation of Month End Management Accounts with meaningful and insightful narrative, as well as group consolidated reporting.
- Presenting key management information at bi-monthly Board meetings and providing useful insight to company directors.
- Group Accounts experience.
- Ownership of Profit & Loss and Cash Flow forecasting.
- Budget Preparation; establishing budgets, KPI’s, and reporting against budget.
- Implement and maintain cost ledger reporting fit for the commercial needs of the business.
- Accurate calculations of cross charging costs amongst the group.
- Group reconciliations.
- Streamline and improve accounting systems and processes, and interfaces with other systems.
- Deliver reliable and timely reconciliation of all nominal ledger Balance Sheet accounts.
- Improve cost allocation accuracy and embed systems.
- Oversee Monthly Payrolls.
- Tax compliance (VAT, PAYE, P11D, and Construction Industry Scheme).
- Management of Fixed Asset Register.
- Preparing high quality year-end packs for all subsidiary companies to be issued to the external accountants, as well as being the lead liaison.
