Financial Controller

Location: Office-based, Manchester HQWorking Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pmReports to: Finance Director

Salary £50-60k depending on experience

A premium fashion retailer with a strong presence both online and in-store, known for its curated collections and exceptional customer experience. The business is entering an exciting phase of growth, with new store openings planned across the UK and internationally.

Role Overview

As Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Finance Director and leading a small finance team. You’ll be responsible for ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, and strategic support during the company’s expansion. This is a hands-on role suited to a qualified finance professional with a background in retail or ecommerce.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee Accounts Payable and Receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
• Manage the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring correct capitalisation and depreciation.
• Lead the Monthly Management Reporting process, including P&L, balance sheet, and variance analysis.
• Perform Bank Reconciliations and ensure integrity of cash balances.
• Produce and analyse Stock Reports, working closely with merchandising and operations.
• Develop and maintain Cashflow Forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities.
• Assist in Budgeting and Cost Management for new store openings in the UK and overseas.
• Support the FD with financial planning, scenario modelling, and board reporting.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
• Mentor and develop junior finance team members.

Candidate Profile

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
• Proven experience in a similar level role within a UK based retail or ecommerce business.
• Excellent finance systems skills including Xero in addition to Shopify and Peoplevox
• Strong understanding of retail operations, stock management, and multi-channel environments.
• Commercially astute with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Desirable

• Experience with international expansion or multi-currency environments.
• Experience in retail or ecommerce highly desirable with a passion for fashion.
