Financial Controller£75k + PackageConstruction & Maintenance Contractor EssexThe Company:Family run construction and maintenance SME providing refurbishment and planned maintenance services across the Housing, Education, Commercial, Heritage and Health Care sectors.The Role:A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Controller to join our clients expanding finance function reporting directly to the owner. As Financial Controller, you will play a key part as a member of the senior management team. This role will give the Financial Controller the scope to build and mentor a finance team of approximately 4 staff.Leading and continuously developing the accounting team to optimise processes across the function. This will include controls, services, policies, and processes in line with compliance requirements and good financial practice.Responsibilities:
- Produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
- Ensure the integrity of the company / Group's financial systems and monitor compliance with processes and policies
- Review and update internal Finance Department policies and procedures to ensure that they continue to meet business needs
- Carry out business improvement reviews
- Develop and utilise decision-making tools, dashboards, and reports to support the senior management team
- Ensure the balance sheet is fully reconciled monthly
- Responsible for all aspects of cash management including daily tracking of group cash position, monthly cash flow forecasting and maintain banking relationships
- Responsible for the payroll team
- Partner with department heads with a view to optimising performance
- Collaborate with the wider team in budgeting and planning processes
- Overseeing and developing an effective FP&A function
- Ensure effective cost controls are in place
- Lead automation /streamlining of the finance function
- Lead the external auditing process
- Lead, manage and motivate direct reports to maximise their performance and develop their potential
- Experience with Eque2 or similar system is advantageous but not essential
Experience/Qualifications:
- Fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, ICAEW)
- Have 5+ years' experience within an accounting role
- Knowledge of construction industry practices and other relevant legislation is desirable
- Ability to communicate, present and engage with all audiences
- Have experience of hands-on preparation of both management and statutory accounts
- Strong influencing skills, with a persuasive, articulate approach.
- A proven problem-solving approach coupled with a hands-on results orientated demeanour.
- Experience of managing a team of Finance professionals
- High level of expertise across Microsoft packages
