Finance Assistant

Join our team as a Finance Assistant, a crucial role responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting daily financial operations. This position ensures compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. We are looking for someone to join our client on a permanent basis. The ideal candidate would have access to a car for commuting and be AAT level 4 qualified.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Maintain the SAGE accounting system, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately.
- Process invoices, staff expenses, and supplier payments promptly.
- Handle sales invoices and manage the credit control process efficiently.
- Conduct daily bank reconciliations and assist with cash flow monitoring.
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns after review by the finance lead.
- Manage monthly payroll journal postings and assist in preparing monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
- Ensure timely closure of monthly accounts including all balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain precise records of restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Assist in preparing year-end financial statements and audit schedules.
- Address finance-related queries from staff, suppliers, and external partners.
- Provide administrative support for the finance function, including filing, scanning, and record management.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes and assist with the enhancement of financial processes and controls.
- Undertake additional duties as needed to support the finance team.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- AAT level 4 qualified or actively studying towards a relevant finance/accounting qualification.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Professional approach to handling confidential financial data.
- Experience in a finance or accounting environment is essential.
- Proficiency in using accounting software, preferably SAGE, and Microsoft Excel.
- Basic understanding of VAT and payroll is desirable.
- Access to a car is essential for commuting.
